Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed the club is actively seeking to sign a new striker during the January transfer window following significant injury setbacks to key attacking players.
Injury Crisis at Arsenal
The Gunners are grappling with a depleted forward line after Gabriel Jesus suffered an ACL injury during the FA Cup clash against Manchester United, sidelining him for an extended period. Additionally, Bukayo Saka is out for at least three months with a hamstring injury, while youngster Ethan Nwaneri is also unavailable due to a muscle issue.
With Arsenal now relying on just four senior forwards—Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Raheem Sterling—Arteta acknowledged the need to bolster the squad.
Arteta’s Comments on Transfers
Speaking to TNT Sports, Arteta said:
“Yes, for sure, because we lost two big players—Bukayo could be out for three months, and Gabby is going to be out for a long time too. We are going to try for sure. We are actively looking.
“We have lost two very important players, we have 14 players in the squad, and we play every three days. So, we will try and let’s see what we can get.”
Potential Targets
While Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is reportedly Arteta’s dream signing, the Magpies’ £150m valuation is likely to deter Arsenal from pursuing the Swedish striker this month.
Other names linked to the Emirates Stadium include:
- Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig): The Slovenian forward has impressed in the Bundesliga and could be a versatile addition to Arsenal’s attack.
- Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting CP): The Swedish striker is known for his physicality and goal-scoring ability, making him a strong candidate for the Premier League.
- Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford): The Cameroon international has been in excellent form this season and offers Premier League experience.
Time Running Out
With just two weeks remaining in the transfer window, Arsenal faces a race against time to secure a deal. The club’s focus will likely be on finding a striker who can immediately contribute to their push for success in the Premier League and beyond.
